Simon brings a wealth of experience from a varied and unique set of industries, workplaces and environments. In his early career Simon developed his property and facilities career in a series of blue chip professional services firms which included PWC accountants and DLA Piper Lawyers.
Starting as a regional FM for PWC in the north east of England, Simon worked his way to become the Head of Property and FM for the UK and Europe for DLA Piper leading several of the firm’s high profile mergers in England, Scotland, Belgium and Spain.
Following eleven years with professional service firms Simon’s career then diversified into further education with a Head of Operations role with one of the Cambridge University Colleges, Corpus Christi . Managing a varied portfolio of properties of which included sporting, commercial and a varied catering operation along with the set-up of a conference business, the role with Corpus Christi would prove to be of great value later in his career. Simon also managed to fully participate in many of the college’s sporting activities including becoming the first staff member to join in the annual college rowing races for more than fifty years. It was also the first boat to crash and almost sink for several decades too!
Next stop on the development of his career was a little further afield with three years in the Middle East desert of Dubai with Nakheel Asset Management (the developer of the Palm islands; Jumeirah, Jebel Ali and Deira ). Managing a large master community of ninety thousand residents living in twenty two thousand apartments with five thousand retail units was a significant challenge both personally and professionally with quality, safety and asset management in a very embryonic state within the Emirate. The spectacular property market boom and bust was a feature of 2007 through to 2010 which ultimately ended in a return to the UK for the expat Simon and a move into professional sport at an elite level (management not playing sadly!). Simon was the client Project Manager and Head of Operations for the new Tottenham Hotspur Training Centre in London and managed all the daily operations there as well as at the old training ground in Chigwell for two years before getting called up by the English Football Association at Wembley Stadium.
As the Director of Stadium Services, Simon managed all of the stadium services, retail outlets and tour business on behalf of the Football Association at Wembley. With thirty five major events each year attended by ninety thousand people, the stadium holds world class events for Football, NFL, Rugby and iconic music concerts.
Bringing things right up to date, Simon is currently providing management services to several of the iconic venues and the wider public park areas of the Olympic Park in London.
Out of work Simon has three children of which the younger two are passionate sportsmen playing cricket, golf and football.
Travel features high on Simon’s hobbies with trips in 2016 to Spain, Hungary, Czech Republic, Finland, Belgium, France and Turkey.
I am sure we all wish Simon the best of luck in his new role and having swapped working with Gareth Bale and Roy Hodgson he will bring some of his own distinctive skill set to our team at GFS.
